NATION’S LARGEST NGO TO FORM VOLUNTEER HUB IN PROVINCE
Gawad Kalinga, (GK) the Philippine’s largest NGO is expanding its presence in the Davao Region. The civil society organization best known for building houses in poverty-stricken areas is forming a focal group in Davao del Sur. Along with youth organizations under the Davao del Sur Youth Network (DSYN), GK is inviting young people to attend a series of events to highlight GK’s Barangay Walang Iwanan campaign. The aim of the “Walang Iwanan” (No One Left Behind) campaign is to lift five million poor people nationwide. GK seeks to create provincial partners to localize the campaign for an estimated 60,000 people living below the poverty line in the province.
This coming November 11, 2017 young people and youth organizations are invited to attend a meeting at the Marivic Caminero-Diamante Law Office to prepare for GK’s growth. One goal of this meeting is to organize the upcoming GK Youth Camp in one of many GK Davao del Sur villages. The aim of the camp is to create a group of young people who will lead in addressing poverty and localizing initiatives to identify issues and solutions within the province’s poorest barangays. Through immersing with the community and imbibing the organization’s spirit of Walang Iwanan it is the expectation of the organizers to create a culture of caring that will help address the province’s unbalanced development.
