Digos City, Davao del Sur – Kite-runners are invited to Padada, Davao del Sur for the 5th Tabanog Festival this summer. The festival gathers participants from across the country in kite-related contests including design, kite-fights and others. The two-day aerial event is scheduled this May 14-15, 2016.
First-time kite makers are invited to attend the festival’s introductory workshop. The first activity of the festival is designed to teach children and the young at heart about basic kite construction. The sub-event is scheduled for the whole day at the St. Michael’s School of Padada this coming May 14. The workshop portion is sponsored by the Rotary Club of South Digos.
Audiences interested in the main event are invited at the Padada Cemetery for the festival’s second day at May 15. The event features creative kite-designs, kite-fights and other shows. People are advised to bring umbrellas and water as the heatwave of the competition is certain to raise the temperatures.
Individuals and organizations interested in the program may contact Czaldy Garrote, the municipality’s tourism officer. 10 percent of the Festival proceeds are designed to raise funds for the Saint Michael’s School of Padada Alumni Association’s mangrove raising project. The Tabanog (kite) festival is an annual kite flying contest celebrated since 2012.
